Speak Truth in Love

Speak Truth in Love
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

1 Samuel 24:11, “Moreover, my father, see! Yes, see the corner of your robe in my hand! For in that I cut off the corner of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor rebellion in my hand, and I have not sinned against you. Yet you hunt my life to take it.”

David showed Saul that he had his torn robe in his hand and could have easily killed him. Everybody told David to kill Saul, but he didn’t.

It’s noteworthy that David confronted Saul with his sin. He spoke the truth in love. I love how he didn’t hide out in the back of the cave. He walked out and confronted him with, not only what he had done, but with what sin Saul had done to him.

Jesus said in Matthew 18:15, “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him. And confront him. And if he listens to you, you’ve gained your brother.”

An enemy will stab you in the back. A friend will carefully, lovingly, stab you in the front because they love you. They will tell you if you have food on your face and let you know you’re off track.

Proverbs 27:6, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend. The kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”
Nathan will do that to David later on as he comes to King David and said you are the man who is committing adultery.
