Forgive Them!

Forgive Them!
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

Matthew 6:14, “If we forgive the trespasses of others our heavenly father will forgive us but if we do not forgive the trespasses of others our heavenly father will not forgive us.”
When people harm us, when they come against us, when they sin against God and it affects us, we need to forgive them.

How many times should I forgive somebody when their sin affects me? Peter asked Jesus the same question in Matthew 18:21. “Lord how many times should I forgive them? 7 times? Jesus said, “Not seven times but 70 times seven.” Jesus is saying to keep on forgiving them constantly because that’s what Jesus does for us! Every time we mess up, we ask Jesus to forgive us. Does he look down from heaven to tell us we’ve blown it and we’ve had too many chances? No! He doesn’t say that does He? He constantly forgives us and this is the heart of Jesus!

We are never more like Jesus than when we choose to forgive!

It’s important to forgive those who sin against us and God because if we’re not willing to forgive them then that root of bitterness begins to swell up in our hearts and that turns into anger and resentment.

In Luke 23:34, Jesus said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”
