The Last Minute Rescue

1 Samuel 23:26-28, “Then Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. So David made haste to get away from Saul, for Saul and his men were encircling David and his men to take them. But a messenger came to Saul, saying, ‘Hurry and come, for the Philistines have invaded the land!’ Therefore Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines; so they called that place the Rock of Escape.”
Saul and his forces were closing in on David and his 600 men. It says he was being encircled by the army of Saul, things are looking bleak, but the Lord intervened by allowing the Philistines to attack the land thus calling Saul back to fight the Philistines rather than chasing David.
Note carefully that the Lord’s intervention for David came at the very last minute! God usually waits until the last minute to step in. I believe God allows that last minute rescue to really grow us, to stretch us, to mature us and to cause us to come to a place of absolute dependency upon Him to trust Him. He gets all the Glory!
David went to the rock. This is always the place for us to go when Satan is pursuing us. Go to the rock and build your life on the Rock!
1 Corinthians 10:4 says that the rock is Christ. Run to Jesus and allow Him to protect you like we are seeing Him protect David. All other foundations are sinking sand but God is able to deliver us from what we think are impossible situations!
