Find me a Tigger

1 Samuel 23:17, “And he said to him, ‘Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Even my father Saul knows that.’ So the two of them made a covenant before the Lord. And David stayed in the woods, and Jonathan went to his own house.”
Jonathan said to encourage David. There is a spiritual gift in the New Testament called the gift of exhortation. Another translation is “the gift of encouragement” and I love to be around people who have that gift. It’s hard to be around Eeyore’s, the donkey, always seeing something bad. Find me Tigger. I love Barnabas, the son of encouragement in the Bible.
Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.”
God comforts him personally by sending his best friend Jonathan. Now remember they haven’t seen each other since Jonathan shot those three arrows as a signal for David to flee from Saul because Saul was ready to kill him. Jonathan came alongside David and encouraged him. When Jonathan came, he told David not to be afraid!
Jonathan also mentioned David should be king over Israel. Tt’s exactly what God told David when he was a kid.
Johnathan said that his father Saul knew that God had picked David to be king! Saul knew that David was to be the next king, yet he still hunted him like an animal. He was out to kill the one whom God had chosen to take his place! Don’t be a Saul, be a Johnathan!
